Successfully updating or creating any website with SEO requires the marketing team, design team, tech team and content team to all work together. Each website will have its own needs, problems and solutions. A team of professionals will limit the risk of SEO problems such as lost back link history, lost index pages, duplicate content, missing sales and conversions, missing traffic, errors on bookmark pages and limited site redirection. Work closely with your team in order to avoid common mistakes to help drive traffic and improve sales for your E-commerce website.

Flash websites have visual appeal, but they are not easy for search engine spiders to index. Even one Flash file will reduce SEO rankings. Websites should be created in HTML, and Flash should be used sparingly to promote SEO rankings. Another problem for search engine spiders is JavaScript Navigation. Do not build a website in this script since it does not enhance the appeal of your site and limits your search engine optimization. Cascading style sheets (CSS) and dynamic HTML (DHTML) will provide the same effects as JavaScript Navigation and increase SEO optimization.

Many content management systems use dynamic URLs. However, these dynamic URLs do not provide search engine spiders with information about the webpage. Make sure that URLs are written with vital keywords and that the database you use will allow you to place URLs with the keywords that are optimal for search engine use. It is important to link old websites to new ones, but JavaScript redirect, META refresh and 302 are not useful. When changes demand redirecting a page use the 301 server-side redirect. This creates a link from the old site to the new one and help search engines find the content.

Some people make the mistake of ignoring the content. The keywords need to appear on every page. Sometimes pages do not include content. These tier-one and tier-two pages should have text-based headers or

headers in the template that can include the key words. It is also important to make use of well-written content that engages customers once they are directed to your website.
